  3. <hi style=afpcap>The Douglas DWC, which was the Air Service abbreviation for the Douglas World Cruiser, was built for an Army requirement to circumnavigate the world during 1924. Of the four machines which departed Seattle in April 1924, two were lost in accidents, but the other pair completed the westbound journey of 27,553 miles in 175 days.</hi>
